1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 2500 Gran Turismo, Series IV
1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 2500 Gran Turismo, Series IV
Chassis #3157, production date June 15, 1954
The Lancia Aurelia is, from an innovative engineering and styling standpoint, positioned near the top of Post WWII automobile designs. It was the first car designed specifically to ride on radial tires, the “X”, designed and manufactured by Michelin. It used monocoque (unibody) construction. It was the first production car with a six cylinder engine in V-configuration. The 4-speed transmission was a rear-mounted transaxle, with rear drum brakes positioned inboard. The B20 was the first motorcar to use the nomenclature “Gran Turismo” in its name. Never a manufacturer to skimp on quality, the Aurelia was built to the highest Lancia standards. An Aurelia took second place overall in the 1951 Mille Miglia, trailing only a Ferrari 340, as well as 1-2-3 in the 1952 Targa Florio road race around Sicily. Considered to be the best-driving Italian car of the period, Juan Manuel Fangio, along with other Gran Prix drivers, chose Aurelias for their daily transportation.
The Series IV Aurelia B20, according to many authorities of the model, is considered to be the most desirable of the six series built from 1951 until 1958. 3157’s engine and brake system have both been freshly rebuilt. It also has a thermostatically-controlled cooling fan for the radiator. It comes with a Certificato Di Origine from Lancia documenting that the B20 is still powered by its original engine.
This Lancia is eligible for participation in the 1000 Miglia Storica and other major motoring events.
